Aegean Maritime Museum
The Aegean Maritime Museum was founded in 1983 and in 1985 it opened its doors to the public, on the island of Mykonos, as a non-profit organisation. The museum’s mission is to preserve, promote and study the Greek maritime history and tradition, the evolution and activities of the merchant ship, mainly in the historic region of the Aegean Sea.
The Aegean Maritime Museum is in a traditional Mykonian building located at the centre of the Town of Mykonos, in the area of Tria Pigadia
Archaeological Museum of Mykonos
The Archaeological Museum of Mykonos was built in 1902, in order to house the finds from the "Purification Pit" of 426/5 B.C., which was discovered in 1898 on the islet of Rheneia, by D. Stavropoulos.
It was designed by Alexandros Lykakis and paid for by the Ministry of Education and the Archaeological Society of Athens, while the land was donated by the Municipality of Mykonos. The original Neoclassical building assumed its present, "insular" form in 1934, and the large, eastern room, was added in 1972
The exhibition of the museum includes a large number of vases, ranging from the prehistoric to the late Hellenistic period (25th-1st century B.C.), grave statues, stelae and funerary urns from Rheneia, and very few finds from Mykonos.
The museum contains the following collections:
- Funerary statues and grave stelae dating from the 2nd/1st century B.C.,
- Pottery dating from the 25th to the 1st century B.C.,
- Clay figurines dated to the 2nd/1st century B.C.,
- Jewellery and small objects of the 2nd/1st century B.C.

Folklore Museum of Mykonos
Mykonos Folklore Museum is located in the Venetian Castle (also known as Kastro) and was founded on May 1958. The old double stories whitewashed building, of which the museum is part of, is an old house which dates back from the 18th century.
The museum exhibits an impressive collection of folklore items, folk musical instruments, textiles and traditional costumes, and also important pieces of furniture and pieces of sculpture. Important tools, pieces of ceramics, photographs, are also displayed for the visitors.
There is also a large collection of commemorative plates of Greek kings and queens, asl well as samples of embroidery. The Folklore Museum incorporates the Agricultural Museum which is located in Ano Myli. Another branch of the Folk Museum is Lena's House at Tria Pigadia which is located in the Mykonos Town.
Lena’s House is a real middle class Mykonian residence dating from the 19th century. It has a drawing room, two bedrooms and two courtyards with a dovecote. The Agricultural Museum has a collection of old agricultural machinery and tools and includes also the large Boris windmill which dates from the 16th century and functions as well as it did when it was built.
